CLutter BE Gone!

Ok, so you may or may not know this but a few of my personal goals are to get my personal life cleaned up along with things around me.

What I mean by this is that I don’t throw anything out, well hardly anything anyway.  When the mail comes in I put everything on the kitchen table and then I start going through my bills, one by one.  Then I put my bills back in their original envelopes along with the promotions that they come with and I add them to my already overflowing pile of last months and the months before bills.

Now don’t get my wrong, my bills are paid on time and most of them paid off ,at that each month but for some reason I still hold on to the old bills as if I can’t seem to remember that they have already been taken care of.  Well actually the real reason I hold onto my bills is because I want to compare the costs each month especially with the heating bills and electric bills to see how much more or less I am accumulating in costs each month so that I can try to stay lower more consistently, but this really never happens lolol.

That however is for another blog post when I cover decluttering my office space. :-)   Today though I took on the challenge of decluttering and organizing my four year olds room, which is also mommies second room for the overflow of my things! (sigh)

Now understand I have been meaning to clean up this room for awhile even before it got as cluttered as it is now which you will see below, but between everything else that I do there just wasn’t the time.  Now I have been practicing putting away a little bit everyday and that does work for awhile but Ladies and this is directed to you.  How many of you when you are going out for a night on the town take out several different outfits to try on before you find just the right one and then it’s time for you to go or you’ll be late to meet the others and ALL the clothes you have just taken out get left on the bed????? I’m guilty!!!! lolol

Anyhow this is about my sons room today (Note: I borrow some of his closet space which is why you will see some of my things in his room lolol) so after looking at the room for weeks now trying to commit myself to getting it cleaned up I finally found the time to do it this weekend in between doing the laundry and the rest of my cleaning throughout the house (which only included sweeping and mopping the floors in all rooms and cleaning out the kitchen not getting rid of the months of piled up bills) :-)

So here is a before picture of my sons room and please do excuse the mess and I apologize for some of the personal affects but I really am keepin’ it real in this post lolol

Now here is my sons room after I got through with rearranging everything, mopping the floor and packing away all of the excess “stuff”

Not bad for a pack rat huh! :-) and no I did not stuff everything in the closet, although that has yet to be cleaned out but again that I will save for another blog entry. :-) So what did I do to get myself motivated to do this job you ask?

Well first off the day before I told myself that I was going to clean out that room, but just in case that didn’t work and I began to procrastinate I told myself that I would only commit 10 minutes to cleaning it up today. Ha, you know what happened from there, once I got to moving everything around and mopping, sweeping and cleaning well I just got carried away and couldn’t stop.  Things got dumped into the wash, papers got shredded and items got put in their rightful place leaving you with the masterpiece you now see above.

I have been a pack rat for years and a clutter bug,  but when I do clean up I clean up well and I usually keep my clutter to one room altogether so that the rest of the house is clear, but none the less there is clutter and sometimes it tends to spread, so I have to take the time now and again to get things under control.

Now for all of you interior decorating types out there, please understand that this cleanup was not about focal points and decorating so much as it was about creating more space and getting rid of the open and out of control clutter.  So still feel free to post your tips but know that I am far from a decorator but I sure can clean up a room if I put my mind to it.

One “To Do” down and so many more to go! :-)   Post your before and after pics of one of your decluttering projects, maybe this will motivate you also to get started and keep it clutter free!!

Bye for now……………….
